If you lose as defender, your mine takes damage and also loses 5% of its maximum performance. (the performance regenerates daily by 1%)
Therefore it's worth it to defend your mines well.
If the attacker loses, they lose all the units they attacked with, and you gain (depending on the level of your training camp) up to 50% of the troops the attacker lost as security forces now defending the mine that got attacked.
The higher the level, the more motivated and powerful your security staff will be.
